Standard witness and received-use edition
The Society of Archbishop Justus file is a one-page-at-a-time rendering of Daniel Berkeley Updike’s 1930 Standard Book. The AOC/Satucket edition presents the 1928 Prayer Book text with the official 1945 Psalms and Lessons for the Christian Year. It is not a facsimile of the 1930 Standard Book, but represents the form in which the Prayer Book was subsequently printed and used.

Limits of the present diff
What remains unproved
- The AOC file’s embedded legacy fonts have no Unicode maps. Automated extraction corrupts most letters, so a reliable whole-book character diff has not yet been made.
- The AOC/Satucket file and the Justus files share a Satucket editor. Agreement on their shared Prayer Book text cannot substitute for comparison with an independently digitized certified printing.
- The imported HTML came from the separate Justus 1928 web transcription. Its wording, punctuation, capitalization, paragraphing, rubrics, and appointments still require section-by-section collation.
- The preliminary matter and the Collects, Epistles, and Gospels still lack house-style HTML editions in this project.
Editorial method
How the witnesses will be used
For the shared Prayer Book text, the Standard Book rendering controls. A working HTML page should move out of “working transcription” status only after line-by-line collation, correction, and a recorded second check. For the later authorized appointments, the AOC/Satucket file serves as the received-use witness to the 1945 lectionary. Any future transcription of the original 1928 preliminary material should remain provisional until checked against a certified printed edition or an independent high-quality scan.
